1. Who we are
This policy covers the website at ethexplorer.org, including all its pages and the free live Ethereum explorer tool. It is operated by the independent ethexplorer.org editorial team (“we”, “us”), which is responsible for the personal data described here. You can contact us about privacy at any time at contact@ethexplorer.org. More about the team is on our about page.
2. What we do not collect
There is no sign-up, login, newsletter form, comment system or contact form on this site. We therefore do not collect names, passwords, wallet connections or payment details. The site never asks you to connect a wallet and never asks for a seed phrase or private key. We do not use advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, fingerprinting or third-party analytics profiles, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
3. The live explorer tool and third-party APIs
The explorer tool runs entirely in your browser. When you search for a transaction hash, address, ENS name, block or token, your browser sends the request directly to public, keyless blockchain data providers. It does not pass through a server we operate, and we do not record or store your searches. The providers currently used are:
- Blockscout (eth.blockscout.com and its Sepolia, Hoodi and Ethereum Classic instances), the primary source for indexed data. Price data shown in the tool comes from CoinGecko via Blockscout; your browser does not contact CoinGecko directly.
- Public JSON-RPC nodes used as a fallback: PublicNode, dRPC and 1RPC.
Like any web server, these providers receive your IP address, browser user-agent and the content of the request (for example the address you looked up). They process that data under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. Blockchain data itself is public; what is private is the link between you and the addresses you are interested in. If that matters to you, use a VPN or Tor, or run your own node and a local explorer as described in our open-source explorer guide.
The same providers also power the live statistics and gas figures on some pages, such as our Ethereum gas tracker. These requests carry no identifier from us.
The tool updates the address bar (for example /explorer/?q=…) so you can bookmark or share a result. That URL lives in your own browser history. If you open such a URL directly or use the search box in the site header, the page request, including the query in the URL, reaches our hosting provider and may appear in its standard access logs (see section 4).
4. Hosting and server logs
The site is served by a hosting and content delivery provider. When your browser requests a page, that provider automatically processes technical data needed to deliver it and protect the service against abuse: IP address, date and time, requested URL, referring page, browser user-agent and response status. These logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, and are not used by us to build profiles or identify individual visitors. Fonts and images are served from our own domain, not from third-party font or image services.
5. Cookies and local storage
We do not set advertising or tracking cookies, and the explorer tool does not store your searches in cookies. Our hosting provider may set strictly necessary technical cookies for security or load balancing; these do not require consent. Because we use no non-essential cookies, you will not see a cookie banner on this site.
6. Outbound and partner links
Our pages link to third-party websites, including block explorers, official documentation, regulators and a partner cryptocurrency exchange. When you follow a link you leave ethexplorer.org, and the destination site's own privacy policy applies, including any cookies it sets. Some of these are partner links, and the partner may record that you arrived from our site in order to attribute a referral. We do not receive your personal data from the partner beyond aggregated referral information. See our terms of use for our partner disclosure.
7. When you email us
If you write to contact@ethexplorer.org, we receive your email address, your name if you include it and the content of your message. We use this only to reply, fix errors you report and keep a record of corrections. We keep correspondence for as long as needed for that purpose, generally no longer than two years, unless the law requires otherwise. Please do not send us private keys, seed phrases or identity documents; we will never ask for them.
8. Legal basis for processing (GDPR and UK GDPR)
Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation or the UK GDPR applies, we rely on our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) to operate a secure website, keep server logs for security, and answer messages you choose to send us. We do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling that has legal or similarly significant effects.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email us; we will respond within one month. Because we hold very little data, and none that is linked to your explorer searches, we may need details such as the email address you wrote from in order to find it.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EU and EEA it is the supervisory authority in your country, listed by the European Data Protection Board. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.
10. International transfers
Our hosting provider and the third-party data providers named above may process data on servers outside your country, including outside the UK and the EEA. Where we control such a transfer, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses offered by the provider.
11. Children
This site is intended for adults interested in Ethereum. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.
12. Security
The site is served only over HTTPS, and because it is static there is no database of user information to breach. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we keep the data we handle to a minimum by design.
13. Changes to this policy
If we add a feature that changes how data is handled, for example a new data provider for the explorer tool, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted here.
